A from-scratch electromagnetic and gain simulator for metal-semiconductor-metal waveguides and microcavities.
Built a custom semiclassical Maxwell–Bloch FDTD solver from scratch in MATLAB to study propagation and resonances in dispersive waveguide and cavity structures with optical gain.
Self-consistently coupled Maxwell’s equations with optical Bloch equations and a two-level quantum gain medium.
Implemented Lorentz–Drude dispersion for gold.
Simulated metal-semiconductor-metal waveguides and microcavities.
Characterised field distributions, propagation behaviour and resonance amplitudes.
Worked on low-level solver implementation, numerical stability and field/material coupling.
Reported approximately 60% resonance amplitude enhancement through stimulated emission at sub-lasing-threshold pump levels.
